چکیده
This paper explores the relation between interpretations of while in English and mentre Italian introducing adverbial clauses. Central / clauses express a temporal/aspectual modification proposition host clause. Peripheral make accessible from discourse context enhancing relevance proposition. In one approach, introduced by adversative are analyzed as ‘less integrated’ with associated clause than those temporal mentre. another considered not syntactically integrated re-examines nature syntactic integration clause, revealing parallelism peripheral speaker-related sentential adverbs, leading to conclusion that non-integration analysis is appropriate for this type any must be aligned relevant non-clausal adverbials, supporting Frey (2018, 2020a, b). We also argue central recycled speech event modifiers non-integrated. Concretely, we propose they discourse, through specialized layer FrameP (Haegeman & Greco 2018).

Tense in Adjuncts Part 2: Temporal Adverbial Clauses
1. RECAPITULATION Part I of this article treats tense in relative clauses (RCs) in English, Russian and Japanese. The temporal centre in RCs can always be Tproi, and sometimes it has to be Tproi. 1. In SOT languages such as English, the Tense in the RC is bound in RC\wollconfigurations, i.e., we find a Tproi bound by woll. The licensing of the morphological tense in the RC is non-local in these...

One central issue in the theory of clause types is whether force is represented in the syntax. Based on data from English, Italian, and Paduan, we examine this question focusing on a less well-studied clause type, exclamatives. We argue that there is no particular element in syntax responsible for introducing force. Rather, there are two fundamental syntactic components which identify a clause ...

Our aim is to examine those same relations in a corpus of Shakespeare’s comedies and histories. Mondorf (2004) investigated four types of adverbial clauses in a corpus of modern speech and found that the women used more causal, conditional ...
